About Us

An independent voice for the world's older persons

The World Ageing Organization (WAO) is dedicated to promoting healthy, active, productive and dignified ageing across the world — from its headquarters in Amsterdam, The Netherlands to communities on every continent.

Who We Are

A convening power for global ageing

WAO brings together governments, universities, international organizations, healthcare professionals, researchers, civil society — and older persons themselves — to develop innovative solutions for the challenges and opportunities of global ageing.

With the world's older population rapidly increasing, WAO supports the vision of healthy ageing in line with global initiatives such as the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) and the international Sustainable Development Goals.

"Adding life to years —
adding years to life.
